Rams linebacker Samson Ebukam had minor knee surgery after the season, and he will slowly be brought back during offseason workouts in order to be back to full form by training camp. The Rams selected Ebukam with a fourth-round pick in 2017 and he started at linebacker for the defending NFC Champions last season. As a young player, he played well in his first season as a starter while recording two sacks and six tackles for a loss along with 40 tackles.
The best highlight of Ebukam’s career so far was when he returned an interception and a fumble for a touchdown in the greatest regular season game of the decade against the Chiefs. The young linebacker’s plays ignited a 54-51 win over the AFC Championship-bound Chiefs.
In addition to Ebukam’s presence in the linebacking core, the Rams also resigned Dante Fowler to a one-year deal. The team is preparing an excellent edge-rushing attack with the combination of Ebukam and Fowler and may even draft defensive end Jachai Polite who is the best edge-rusher in college football. They also recently signed Clay Matthews, and there linebacking core is starting to look solid.
Ebukam is emerging as a legitimate linebacker for the Rams especially after he scored two defensive touchdowns in one game. If the Rams could groom him, the young player from Eastern Washington could turn into a solid addition to a defensive that is already one of the best in the NFL.
The Rams will look to use their linebacking core of Dante Fowler, Corey Littleton, Clay Matthews, and Samson Ebukam to make another run to the Super Bowl (and hopefully win this time). If the team hopes to repeat the success of the last season, they must maintain and improve their team which they appear to be successfully doing, especially in their linebacking core.
